Horse Rescue
As of 12/1/23 NSHR will no longer be accepting horses into their shelter. However, we will remain available for adoption assistance, placements, adoption returns, horse training, educational equine clinics, community outreach and riding lessons!

About Us
Next Step Horse Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located on the beautiful east side of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Our Mission:
Providing a safe place for abused, neglected and unwanted horses and to educate horse owners and potential horse owners about horse care and management and find forever qualified homes for all horses that come into our program.
We get our horses in partnership with law enforcement agencies and humane societies that across the nation. Our main focus is to assist in cases of abuse, neglect and to retrain and rehabilitate horses where there is no equine program.
Partnerships
NSHR is a verified shelter through The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) since 2021. GFAS is an organization that recognizes and certifies that NSHR provides the highest standards of care during rescue and certifies that our facility/shelter meets the GFAS Standards of Excellence.
